The Line LA

Los Angeles, United States

The Line occupies a 1960s tower in Koreatown, and rather than disguising that inheritance the hotel leaned into it. Concrete stays concrete; the rooms are stripped back to their structural bones, with floor-to-ceiling glass doing most of the decorating by framing the city grid outside. The public rooms carry the art programme — commissioned pieces, rotating installations, a lobby that functions as a neighbourhood crossroads as much as a hotel entrance. It is a property with a strong sense of where it stands, and it does not pretend to be anywhere else.
